Before becoming a tattoo artist, I worked for many years as a freelance illustrator and cartoonist with an emphasis on high-contrast inkwork in a classic EC Comics crime and horror style. My illustrations range from editorial work for news publications, spot illustrations for epic poems, to t-shirt designs and album covers for musicians. My cartooning work drew heavily from my interest in history, including a series of short comics about the history of Pacific Northwest Religious cults called Predators and Prophets which was originally published in Seattle Weekly.
A series of comic strips about true-crime and esoteric history of the Puget Sound region called Strange Sound were published in Seattle Weekly and subsequently in Real Change News. A series called Empire of Ashes exploring American Imperialism was originally published in a Seattle underground comix tabloids called Intruder and Thick as Thieves along with other satirical strips. I have also self-published a number of stand-alone mini-comix and illustrated other writers' stories for The Stranger.
